29 new units, conversion of Grade II Listed church and buildings
Kennet Construction Ltd tendered and won this project to convert the old United Reformed Church at Church Street, Trowbridge, BA14 8GQ. The buildings had been empty for a number of years and were falling into disrepair, suffering from lead stripped roofs, water damage and general vandalism. As a major landmark in the town centre it was becoming a problem, attracting unwanted attention and in need of regeneration.
The project was undertaken in two phases, involving; asbestos removal, stripping out previous fittings and fixtures, decommissioning of old services, archaeologist monitoring, new foundations including underpinning, structural inspections and alterations, stone masonry renovations, new structural floors, new staircases, new roof structure and repairs to existing, design and installation of new M&E services, external works and carpark areas, security systems, insulation, fire stopping, new windows and doors, secondary glazing, repairs to original stain glass windows, remodelling and maintaining aspects of original church in connection with its listed status.
We provided the expertise, supply chain and management to build this iconic development and it has been awarded the Trowbridge Enhancement Award for Excellence 2025 by Trowbridge Town Council.
